Do you love Early Music? Would you like to wind down after work with some polyphony? Join us for our small, inspirational Early Nights workshops with specialist, Scott Inglis-Kidger, in the beguiling setting of St Barnabas, Pimlico.
SEPTEMBER - DECEMBER 2019
He was Kappelmeister to the Archbishop of Gniezno, and wrote in an exhilarating polychoral style similar to that of early Monteverdi and G. Gabrieli. These scores come from his only surviving output – two books, encompassing 117 works, published in Venice in 1611. It is impossible to know if he was inspired directly by the Venetian masters; his music certainly seems to reflect this. Not much later, in 1655, Sweden invaded, permanently interrupting musical life across the country. Even if sources have survived, the devastation caused by World War II has made them impossible to find.
Alongside the music of Zieleński, we will be exploring music by his near contemporaries, both those who served at the courts in Warsaw and Kraków, and those working abroad. We are excited to invite you to sing this rarely performed music in the magical setting of St Barnabas.
