Handel Dixit Dominus
FLAGSHIP WORKSHOP
Saturday 25th January 2025
St Mary's Church, Battersea Church Road, London SW11 3NA
10:30-17:00 (Registration from 10:00)
Directed by Scott Inglis-Kidger and Ghislaine Morgan
One of his most vibrant and vocally challenging works, Dixit Dominus was completed in April 1707 whilst Handel was living in Italy. It is the earliest surviving Handel autograph and was first performed in the Church of Santa Maria in Montesanto. He reused some of the particularly successful melodies and musical effects in Israel in Egypt (among other works) – you may recognise similarities between Israel in Egypt’s ‘He led them through the deep’ and Dixit’s ‘Tu Es Sacerdos’. Being written in a typically Italianate style, the vocal lines are florid and challenging – making this work stand out in Handel's collection of sacred music.

SCORES
We kindly ask you to purchase your own copy of Dixit Dominus. We are using the Bärenreiter edition. There is a choral score or a piano vocal score available from Presto Music. You will notice that the choral score is much more affordable, but does not have the accompaniment written out, if that is something you prefer. We will not be providing hard copies on the day.
