Back by popular demand! Last year’s Venetian Voices was universally enjoyed so we thought we’d dive back into the polychoral grandeur of Venetian sacred music, characterised by cori spezzati and radiant harmonies. This time we’ll explore works by Giovanni Croce, Giovanni Gabrieli, Baldassare Donato and Giovanni Bassano. Gabrieli’s work, Jubilemus singuli, is an excellent example of the antiphonal style, while Croce’s Buccinate in neomenia tuba, an unusual text based on two psalms, is full of vital polyphony. We’ll also sing two joyous works setting texts discussing the nativity: Hodie Christus natus est by Donato and Quem vidistis pastores? by Bassano. Join us to immerse yourself in the glorious soundscape of Renaissance Venice.
