Handel in Arcadia
CHAMBER WEEKENDER Two-day format
Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th September 2025
St Barnabas Church, Pimlico, London SW1W 8PF
Directed by Scott Inglis-Kidger
Join us for our second upper voices Chamber Weekender as we immerse ourselves in the beauty of Handel’s Italian duets. Composed during his formative years in Rome, these works reveal a more intimate, lyrical side of his oeuvre, far removed from the pomp and grandeur of his English oratorios. We will explore a selection of his Arcadian duets – poetic dialogues on love, longing, and emotional awakening (almost mini-dramas) – written for two upper voices and continuo. Under Scott Inglis-Kidger's expert guidance, we will delve into Baroque performance practice, dramatic interpretation and in-depth vocal coaching. From tender sighs and plaintive melodies to complex fugues and spirited arguments, this weekender promises to be as exciting and enriching as ever.
What are these weekends all about?
Our Chamber Weekenders are our most tailored and immersive offering, and are designed to challenge and stimulate experienced choral singers in a chamber setting (around 20 people). They are best suited to those who enjoy singing to a high level and feel confident in chamber-sized groups. Therefore diligent preparation and/or solid sight-reading is expected.
