Josquin Jukebox
CHORAL MATINÉE WORKSHOP
Wednesday 22nd July 2026
St Barnabas Church, Pimlico/Belgravia SWIW 8PF
14:00-17:30 (Registration from 13:45)
Directed by Scott Inglis-Kidger
Step up to the jukebox and explore the music of Josquin des Prez. He was a central figure of the Franco-Flemish school and arguably the most influential composer of his generation. His works, which were circulated widely across Europe in the early age of music printing, were admired for their expressive text-setting and clarity of line. This programme draws together motets that reveal his remarkable range: from luminous, imitative textures to moments of striking directness. His compositions are packed with beautiful, singable melismas, making it clear that Josquin was himself a singer. Each piece offers a different facet of a composer whose reputation, even in his own lifetime, bordered on legendary.
